The IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) has put together an at-a-glance guide to driving and riding in adverse weather, to help the estimated six million drivers who are now facing the worst driving conditions in a generation.

The IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) is this month warning motorists to dismantle or remove their safety camera detectors when driving abroad to avoid serious penalties. In some countries, in-car satnav systems that show where safety cameras are located are also banned.

Driving deaths down below 3000 is a major success for road safety policy in Britain, says the IAM.

More motorists are accepting safety cameras as part of life on the road, according to an IAM Motoring Trust Survey.

“Older drivers are among the safest on the road and represent a much smaller risk than drivers less than 25 years. Therefore, it is hard to justify the imposition of compulsory medical or driving tests at the age of 70 on road safety grounds”, says Neil Greig, IAM Trust Director.

"Britain's drivers want more warning signs about speed cameras and speed limits on roads where cameras are sited, according to a new survey for the IAM".

  1. Slideshow: Borders Young Driver Challenge 2006

This Photogallery has images of the Borders Young Driver Challenge 2006, which took place at Netherdale, Galashiels, on Wednesday 31st May and Saturday 3rd June.  The images were taken at the Saturday event, and include shots of the "admin marquee" with some of our Observers*, the new Motorcycle Safety Camera Unit, a crashed vehicle, a sequence of images of the emergency services dealing with a "staged" accident, and pictures of the winners.

*Our Observer team, which included Bill Allison, Bob McKendrick, Peter Sandison, and Jack Wilson, helped judge the Driving Assessment part of the Competition; Charlie Dodds kept us all in order from the Admin Marquee!
